About the CIB Risk Management Graduate Programme

At Standard Bank, we are committed to fostering innovation and reducing risk across our operations. The CIB Risk Management Graduate Programme offers young professionals an 18-month journey of learning, problem-solving, and real-world exposure across key business units.

Risk Management at Standard Bank goes beyond compliance. It involves understanding the bank’s financial risk profile, defining risk appetite, identifying growth opportunities, and protecting stakeholders. You’ll engage in critical analysis, help shape responsible strategies, and collaborate with diverse teams to optimize returns while managing financial, economic, legal, regulatory, and reputational risks.


What You’ll Experience

Participants will rotate across high-impact areas such as:

  • Corporate Credit Risk
  • Non-Financial Risk
  • Real Estate Finance Credit Risk
  • Financial Institutions Credit Risk
  • ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) Risk
  • Country & Sovereign Risk
  • Risk Assurance
  • Data Management

This programme is ideal for graduates who are analytical, resilient, curious, and passionate about responsible business practices.


Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, you must have a Postgraduate qualification (completed or completing in 2025) in one of the following fields:

  • Mathematics and Statistics
  • Actuarial Science
  • Financial Mathematics
  • Financial Risk Management
  • BCom Honours in Finance / Economics / Risk Management
  • BSc Honours in Environmental Science
  • PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics)

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen
  • Be under 30 years of age
  • Have a minimum average of 65% for all years of study
  • Maximum two years of work experience
